The weather in Cape Town now capricious, tantalizing or MAGNIFICENT?
The only certain thing about the weather in Cape Town is that it's not always certain!

If you put a chunk of sandstone nearly 1km high right next to the ocean, it attracts weather! Think of Table Mountain as a cloud magnet. Luckily the weather associated with the mountain can be so localised that it need not ruin your plans for any particular day.We don't let unpredictable weather get us down. Yes, the kids moan and groan sometimes at changes of plan. But if your day's outdoor activities do have to be shelved, there are always lots of other
things to do in Cape Town
!

The weather in Cape Town, season by season
Summer runs from November to March. Average temperatures are in the mid 20's (deg C), though daily maximums are generally 30-something! There's not much rain at all, and the prevailing south-easterly wind can be strong on some days.
Autumn - that's April, May and even June some years. It's my favourite time of the year - not too hot, not too cold and no wind to speak of. We have some balmy days in May when the temperatures still reach 27 deg C but the heat seems surreal because the sun is at its low autumn angle!
Winter! June, July, August. Blustery storms interspersed with clear cool days. It seldom freezes in Cape Town, though I remember once scraping frost off my windscreen one morning! The fynbos is in bloom and the mountains are a verdant green - fabulous. Whales, great white sharks and Namaqualand flowers abound.
Spring... can I have two favourites? September and October are also tranquil months, full of burgeoning blooms and lush growth. It's the best time of year for Cape gardens and time to visit the
flowers up the West Coast
! It's also the
best whale watching season in Cape Town
Tips to keep you all smiling in spring, summer and autumn I can still remember our 'holiday of a lifetime' in Mauritius when I was 8. You guessed it - bad sunburn on Day One made me a very unhappy camper! The weather in Cape Town can be harsh. 10 minutes' sun exposure is enough to cause sunburn. Children's skins are especially sensitive, so be a sergeant-major and don't let them break these rules! Slip on a shirt, Slop on the sunscreen (factor 35+ please) and Slap on a hat.
You won't be sorry :o)
