In the case of our Waterfront Cape Town has created a superb example of putting historic buildings to use without destroying their charm.

When I first moved to the Cape the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront consisted of Ferryman's Pub and a lot of very fishy-smelling docks. Plans were afoot, but they seemed like a load of cods-wallop to us. Little did we know!

The area has since been completely transformed and is justifiably punted as the most visited place in South Africa.

Admittedly it's not the place to go bargain hunting and some Cape Town cynics would call it a tourist trap.

So be it !!

Despite that, we visit regularly!

So, why do WE go there? - Hours of fun!

the working harbour provides educational entertainment for us to watch as we stroll

we munch on icecream cones and watch out for seals like this one - cute isn't he?

walking the breakwater gives us a real kick - kelpy, ocean scents and yelping seagulls! And we like watching the shipping activity from there.

the Aquarium or the Scratch Patch are great especially on days when outdoor activities are less appealing,

we eat and drink, sometimes we even allow ourselves to shop!

Just to let you know, you won't find bed and breakfast accommodation in the Waterfront. It's all hotels (some five star, some less, all good) and apartments.
