Table Mountain Cape Town -- it's June and - brr, it's cold!

Table Mountain Cape Town holds some special memories for us, not least of which was a marriage proposal – we got engaged up there way back in June 1993! (The weather that evening was also cold and misty... and funnily enough it was also in June! The cloud base was below the top of the mountain so we really did feel as though we were floating on the clouds and it wasn’t because of the newly-engaged euphoria!)
Our latest visit -- Table Mountain Cape Town As you can see, we were pretty bundled up! The wind was strong and piercingly cold even though it was a clear day. Luckily we came prepared...
What to wear on the mountain...The top of Table Mountain is ALWAYS cooler than the City Bowl, even on the hottest summer day. The weather up there is very changeable so don't just set out in a little tank top!
- Check the weather forecast before you go.
- Take a couple of warm layers to put on, regardless of the season you're in.
- Wear flat shoes that won't let you slip - you don't need a twisted ankle!
This was a pure see-the-sights trip. It was the first time the children had been on the cable car, so they were really excited. The cold wind was a bit off-putting, but we still managed to explore the little marked trails as well bouncing off a few rocks - always a favourite pastime!

Of course we checked the lookout spots and took some great pictures of various points of the compass...!(I didn't want to slow this page down, so go over to my

Warming up with food and drink Feeling we'd braved the elements enough for one day we headed back along the path to the Table Mountain restaurant...

...to guzzle hot chocolate and munch scones! We found a spot right by the window and enjoyed the view from behind wind-proof glass - spectacular scenery wherever we looked. The changeable weather warning was particularly true on this day. The morning was crystal clear but by lunchtime the mountains above Hout Bay were shrouded in cloud and wisps of vapour were licking round Lion's Head.

Time to go! We'll come back in the summer and do the sundowner thing next time.
August 2007 -- Table Mountain Cape Town There have been even more incidents of
crime
and muggings on Table Mountain and now also on Lion's Head. Grr! I hate these cowardly opportunists... Much as I hate to do this, I must warn you that hiking and walking in either of these parts of the Table Mountain National Park could lead to an unpleasant incident. I don't think the official Table Mountain hike will be affected and cable car rides are still fine. If in doubt call Table Mountain National Park communication department on 021 701 8692 for information.
Have you thought of doing a Table Mountain Hike Trail?
I did the Orangekloof Trail !
