Spier Hotel, StellenboschIn the Cape Town WinelandsSo, what is Spier?
It's a wine estate which has morphed in the last 15 years from small and unobtrusive to a multi-faceted Stellenbosch wine route destination. The wine making and tasting still goes on in the centre of it all, but the rest of the estate hs been been transformed. The grounds now accommodate two restaurants one a fine dining affair and the other is Moyos - which is not your average winelands affair! The lawn around the lake is a family feast with pony rides and duck feeding as well as deli-style picnics (provided on-site only please, no BYO!). There are two wildlife conservation projects adjacent to the lake and the Amphitheatre which plays host to dramatic and musical events throughout summer. Then there's the Spier Hotel... Spier Hotel - what's it like? After the description above you may be thinking the hotel is in the middle of a hustle of activity. It's not, but with delightful walks leading to so much varied entertainment in close proximity, it's a great desination especially for multi-generational parties.
The hotel is set out in the style of a teeny Tuscan village. The suites themselves are a short distance from the main reception, laid out along pedestrian alley-ways around secluded, walled courtyards. That makes for an child-delighting atmosphere of continual exploration and discovery! Within the courtyards there are vine-trailing arbours and parasols under which to shelter and cool splash pools that invite lounging relaxation. The shuttered windows keep the rooms cool and dim in the heat of summer, but the under-floor heating will keep you toasty-warm in winter! In Winter - Alleyways in the Rain?
Actually there is very little to fear from the rainy weather. The staff work tirelessly to keep you warm and dry, whisking you about in golf buggies and providing umbrellas whenever you might need one. If your room is upstairs, DO watch your step on the stairs, though! The distance to your room is not enormous and the public areas of the hotel lend themselves to hanging out in space and warmth regardless of what's going on outside. And there's always the Spa if you really need to retreat from the foul weather :-) The Spa - tell me more! From its first floor vantage point the Spa looks out over the Roman-bath-like swimming pool and offers treatments of all descriptions to get your pelt in perfect condition. If body-buffing and pampering form part of your plan, you are well catered for. Just book as soon as you arrive to avoid disappointment! Book Spier HotelYep, all that remains is to book! If you decide it sounds like your cup of tea, please book via this link. It won't cost you a penny more, but it keeps me online to provide more useful information! ![]() You may find the following related pages helpful: Stellenbosch Wine Route Moyos From Spier Hotel Review to the Homepage |
