Cape Town Family Holiday Magic

South African Public Holidays

Dates to Diarise and Make the Most of your Leave!

There are 12 official South African public holidays. It's a complete bummer that so many of them fall around April and turn that month into mayhem, but what can you do?!

Here they are in handy calendar format, a month at a time for the next 18 months...
If you'd rather have them listed for the whole year, scroll down and look below the calendar :)

How do you plan to make the most of your holiday time in the coming year?

Did you know that Capetonians call April and May 'the secret season'? It's one of the nicest times of year here, but not many people outside the Cape know that!

Cape Town is a great place to holiday with the family, especially over Easter...

Remind yourself of a few of Cape Town's special places --

  • Awesome beaches
  • Table Mountain
  • The Winelands and all the wine routes
  • Penguins at Boulders

  • Here's that list... don't forget that Easter dates change year by year!

And don't forget that often the school authorities slot in an additional day off for scholars where a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday!

  • New Year's Day -- 1 January
  • Human Rights Day -- 21 March
  • Good Friday -- 22 April in 2011, 6 April in 2012, 29 March in 2013
  • Family Day (Easter Monday) -- April 25 in 2011, April 9 in 2012, April 1 in 2013
  • Freedom Day -- 27 April
  • Worker's Day -- 1 May
  • Youth Day -- 16 June
  • National Women's Day -- 9 August
  • Heritage Day -- 24 September
  • Day of Reconciliation -- 16 December
  • Christmas -- 25 December
  • Day of Goodwill -- 26 December
