Simonstown - large group - walking distance to amenities

Simon's Town with my family - group of 8, including 2 young children (age 5 & 8) and 3 elderly (age 60+)
This would be our first trip to Cape Town. Arriving there on Nov 29th. Planning to spend 7 nights there.
After reading your suggestion (given to another person) we decided to break our holiday into 2 parts - 2 nights in Simon's Town and the rest in Cape Town.
Since we would like (well, myself really) to visit Sunday Market in Cape Town, we will spend the first 2 nights at Simon's Town.
I have pretty much arranged our itinerary in Cape Town itself, but still looking for ideas of things to do in Simon's Town, besides a visit to Cape of Good Hope, Boulder's Beach and Scratch Patch.
I am also wondering if we can get a cab/van easily from Simon's Town to Cape Point and surrounding areas. Or do we need to book in advance?
Besides that, can you advice me on accommodation in Simon's Town, please - which is just a walking distance to shops, transportation and eateries (given the fact that we are traveling with elderly).
Thank you in advance for your kind help.
