Quad Biking near Cape Town
Custom Search
Last time we went quad biking in the Western Cape it was near Caledon. We loved it and meant to go again but you know how it is. The years went by and we went... nowhere. Finally the bug really bit and we made a plan. Our children being still way to young for this (ideally kids need to be 12-16 years, or at least old enough to hang on tight :) ) we had to organise a carer for them, and then we were off...
Our destination was Zevenwacht Wine Estate in Kuils River. I had vague notions of this spot, having considered it as a venue for our wedding reception way back when.
Please note: When we finally arrived we were amazed at the setting. Kuils River itself is Strip Mall City, so seemed not the most promising start. But then you get onto the Zevenwacht estate itself and look across the lake at the old homestead. Wow! We met up with our quad guides outside the restaurant and we were the only members of the party that quiet afternoon! Great! We had all the time in the world and no one to consider but ourselves. After a safety briefing we were fitted out with some fetching headgear and allowed to take our bikes for a familiarising spin round the soccer pitch. Then we set off on the trail.
Eco Quad are a great quad biking outfit We rode with them before and liked it so much we went looking for them the next time! They actually train you as you go along, so if it’s your first time on a quad bike (or like us, second time!) it’s really not a problem.
We did a couple of exercises –- downhill and counterbalancing -- then headed for the Sandpit.I had a wide grin pasted on my face the whole afternoon! The Sandpit was just the start -– wide, looping trails through thick sand, up hill and down dale –- I loved every minute. I even managed to get out of there once I got the hang of second gear :o) We had opted for the 2-hour trail so we got to go all over the wine estate and onto the adjoining one, too. We passed the workers’ village (complete with the village dogs trying their best to nip at our heels!) and flew up through the vineyards. We even saw a little reebok nibbling its way through the vines. It nearly had a heart attack when it heard us, even though we tried to be very discreet... We were surrounded by huge skies and glorious views the whole time. What a great way to spend an afternoon!
Eco Quad rocks! Our huge thanks go to our ‘personal’ guides Henry and Manus. You can contact them for YOUR quad biking outing or corporate team building (I don’t put e-mail addresses on my web site – I don’t like feeding the spam bots!) P.S. Eco Quad have a new venture now at Stanford – fun for the whole family this time, not just older ones! We’ll report back as soon as we can...
