I am in awe ... :)

I have a great idea for your Winelands tour.

*Don't* join a scheduled one. Roddy Bray is a well respected, excellent CT guide and while it would be overkill to sign him up just for yourself (he is pricey and likely not available anyway), you can download his (free) audio guide of the Winelands here and use it.

Or you could arrange a private tour with a specialist wine tour company like Tsiba Tsiba

Looking forward to your trip report!

My 3 day trip
by: AE

I've decided to rent a car & below is what I want to do. I promise no more questions. I will definitely submit a trip report after.

Day 1- Tandem Paragliding first thing in the morning (maybe off Lion's Den) & then my self-guided tour along cape peninsula

Dinner @ La Colombe

Day 2-Kloofing in the Hawequas Mountain (Sluice Gates)- I figured that I should save my other relaxing day for my final day

Dinner @ Jardine

Day 3-Winelands & maybe abseiling table mountain if I can fit that in (doubt it)...not sure if I should do winelands on my own or take a packaged tour. I don't want a super typical tour. Are there any really good or unique ones?

Dinner @ Bizerca Bistro

Excellent
by: Alison

Sounds like a Green Point guesthouse/B&B is a good choice, then. It's really a lovely area, full of old Cape character.

I hope all your plans come together neatly. Of course you're welcome to post back with more questions if they arise...

And I would love it if you sent me a trip report about your experiences after you're done!

Enjoy the Cape :)

So far...
by: AE

I've decided to stay in Green Point because the property I was consider in MP was an apartment so I figured it would be better to be around more activity since I'm alone.

I booked Jardine, La Colombe & Bizerca Bistro for dinner, but with a car I can tour some other vineyards and maybe have a quick bite for lunch.

I'm hoping the motorbike tour works out for Monday and then Tue/Wed with a car. The motorbike tour will get me acclimated so I know how to approach Tue/Wed.

I have read about Terroir as well as Rust en Vrede, Le Quartier Francais and Reubens, just to name a few. I may tweak my list.

Thanks again, Alison.

Whirlwind trip!
by: Alison

First Mouille Point vs Green Point.

MP is right on the promenade, just behind the lighthouse so a more spectacular waterfront setting. It will be *very busy* along there at that time, so may be noisy at night. It's vibey and hip and there are good restaurants within walking distance. It can be a little smelly in the hot weather - (sorry, but this is the warts and all dept after all!) - an offshore sewage outlet causes the problem I believe, plus the ocean dumping a load of klepalong the coastline.

GP is set back from the water, known as the Pink epi-centre of Cape Town, but vibey and exciting for all orientations. Again walking distance to some fun restaurants, maybe not as well-known as the Mouille point ones.

Basically the choice boils down to

    - beside the water (MP) or not (GP)
    - swankier restaurants (MP) or stylish village vibe(GP)

The hop-on hop-off bus will be a great way to get your bearings. Not sure when you land but I would do it as soon as you arrive and do the whole route, as it will give you the Atlantic coastline drive which you might not get to otherwise.

***

Metrorail to Simonstown (not Smiths town :) ) is fine, but it *will* take the best part of a whole day. And do not plan train travel after 5pm to get home, it's a bad idea from a play-it-safe point of view. Or if you hire a motorbike, you could do the trip that way, which would be spectacular, more flexible and therefore better use of time.

***

The motorbike idea is fantastic. I am assuming you have bike-riding experience? If you do, I would go for a bike not a scooter - more power, better for keeping out of trouble, lol! If you don't, SA roads are *not* the place to start getting experience, rather stick to a small car (staid, I know, but truly safer given driving standards at times.)

***

I am imagining you are heading for Franschhoek for the out of town restaurants? Which ones have you booked? And DO be sure to book all foodie restaurants ahead at that time of year.

Also be sure to drive the HelsHoogte pass between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch.

On the opposite side of Stellenbosch, at Klein Zalze is worth a foodie stop.

And in the city, Jardines and Five Flies are worth a mention.

Hope this helps. Post back for more details or alternative suggestions :) And ENJOY Capetown!
