Beachfront with extensive gardens can be tricky...
by: Alison

...and many top-end Cape Town establishments at lovely beaches do not welcome toddlers :-(

I would recommend looking at up-market guesthouses rather than hotels/resorts - they are far better value in Cape Town and offer astonishingly high quality service. The best Cape tour guides will agree with me, I know.

I would recommend Sunset Beach Guest House in Kommetjie. It is peaceful, very beautiful and you step out of the garden right onto the beach. They offer a fully-catered, very personal service and are exceptionally accommodating. I've stayed there, so this is a personal recommendation!

If you are determined on hotels...

The Twelve Apostles hotel is an excellent hotel, right on the coastline and very luxurious. They won a Conde Nast award last year. Unfortunately the beach is a short drive away as the coast is rocky there.

The Peninsula in Sea Point is an option, the local beach is walking distance. This option is the closest to the city centre, but it's not Cape town's loveliest beach, unfortunately.

Lagoon Beach Hotel is an option. They are 5 star and are right on the beach in Table Bay, though a short drive from the city centre.

I have checked by phone and all of these establishments are happy to accept an 18 month old guest!

Please do let me know what you choose, or of course ask for further recommendations!
