Cape Town Family Holiday Magic

Kruger, P.E., Garden Route and Cape Town in 16 days!

by Astrid
(Cambridge, UK)

We are planning a long-overdue trip to South Africa in May next year.

We are spending about 6 days to do the scenic drive and Kruger.

Then have 10 nights allocated to fly to Port Elizabeth and hire a car to do the Garden Route and see Cape Town.

We're arriving at Port Elizabeth quite late but I am not sure how far it would be to drive to Plettenberg Bay (friends told me it's a better base than Knysna).

From the research I've done, my plan so far is to spend
* 2 nights in Plettenberg Bay,
* 1 in Oudtshoorn (although not particulalry keen to visit the Ostrich park),
* 1 night in Robertson
* 1 night in Franschhoek.

I'm torn between an overnight in Hermanus (I know it may be early for whale watching but my husband wants to go!) and Cape Town.
I'm thinking we're going to be changing quite a number of hotels and am not sure whether some of these places do not need an overnight stay. Does this sound feasible to you?

We would like to visit parks such as the Lion and Cheetah Park referred to on your website, and are also keen on dramatic scenery and beaches. In Cape Town I would like to visit Table Mountain and Robben Island and will use your site to plan our three days there!

Do you think I'm trying to pack too much in? Any advice would be gratefully received.

I would like to say well done on a very helpful site!

Thanks very much
Astrid
