You ARE getting around :)

I would add a day to your Kruger section - not sure where you plan to enter and exit Kruger, but the distances and times there are deceiving. And you may not want to leave!

It will take you around 2 and a half hours to drive from P.E. to Plettenberg Bay - it's a straightforward drive, no navigational complexities It IS nice to wake up with the driving already behind you but depending on how late you land, it may be less stress to stay over in P.E. We have stayed at the City Lodge in Summerstrand and it was a good experience, right on the beach.

Oudtshoorn is worth a night even if you are not an ostrich fan - there is an amazing scenic circular route via various the Swartberg mountain pass and Meiringspoort (accessible in a normal vehicle) which is too spectacular to pass up.

Robertson - hmm - are you into wine? It's not the most scenic village along the R62, but has some legendary wineries. If you'd rather have quaint town-but-no-wineries, Montagu is a better bet, about 60km before you reach Robertson.

Franschhoek is fab, and be sure to drive via Stellenbosch if you go to Hermanus.

Hermanus is still a good bet, even at that time of year. And it's only a hour and half easy drive from Cape Town along a monstrously scenic route which you would want to drive anyway :)

Of course if you have even the vaguest fascination for sharks, you should make a turn past Gans Baai (just beyond Hermanus) to do a shark viewing trip. You don't have to cage dive, you can see enough from the surface, and they are truly *amazing* critters!

You can find our favourite Garden Route accommodation here

Hope that helps! Keep us posted, it always helps to hear what decisions other people made and why.
