'Friends' from the Sculpture Garden - Kirstenbosch Photos
Come and meet a very tame elephant! You will also find fleet-footed cheetahs at Kirstenbosch, and an amazing bronze lioness. (All 'ride-able' by adventurous toddlers)
This statue is entitled "Feel the Baby Kick" We love this lady. We hope she never gets sold! There are a number of other African Mamas in the garden all 'traditionally built' in the style of Precious Ramotswe, the famous Number 1 LAdy Private Detective!
Sarah decided this was the perfect place to 'hide'. As you can see, it didn't take us long to find her! Special places and views
This is the view from the window in the Xhosa hut. It a cool dim place to escape from the heat and full of fascinating basketwork.
Skeleton Gorge goes up the right hand side of this 'turret' and Nursery Ravine follows the left hand side. As you can see both are steep climbs, but worth doing! Our children and their cousins (age ranges 5 to 9 years) make it to the top of the mountain in around 4 hours. A Natural Jungle Gym and Some Local Flora and Fauna
This is the famous Octopus Tree, also known as the Spaghetti tree. You can find it hidden in the thick undergrowth between the river and giant oak which shares the Magic Tree lawn near the pond I've yet to find someone who can tell me how old it is but I am guessing a couple of hundred years at least!
The crane flower or Strelitzia which is plentiful around Cape town. Thre is a special yellow celebrity species at Kirstenbosch called 'Mandela Gold'
Here is a male Lesser Double-Collared Sunbird in all his iridescent glory. These and other sunbirds keep busy sipping nectar from blooms all around the protea and erica gardens.
