When you think ice skating Cape Town may not be the first place that springs to mind!

However, despite our anything-but-icy climate, we have an excellent ice skating rink at the Grand West complex in Goodwood.

Grand West is first and foremost a casino, so hardly a family-friendly destination! At least you no longer have to walk through the gaming area to reach the ice rink. And there is lots of stuff to do, including a movie house, restaurants and kids theme park.

But there are a couple of things in its favour -- the beautiful period-style architecture, spectacular classical landscaping make a visit there feel like something of an occasion.

And of course it offers some options for the greatest entertainment in Cape Town!

To get to the Ice Station you make your way through the Grand West complex. En route you pass through here ...

This is the spot never fails to entrance our children – they love that faux sky with its fluffy clouds and pseudo sunset! (After dark it’s inky blue pierced by tiny starry pinpricks... )

Having successfully avoided the temptations of Nandos, pancakes, doughnuts and other delights, the ice rink lies before you in all its glory. Hit the ice and get a good workout!
