Garden Route Climate and Seasons Garden Route weather is varied so it’s hard to give a one-size-fits-all climate roundup for stretch of our lovely coast. For example, Nature’s Valley is only 30 km from Plett, but it’s much wetter. That’s why we love the fabulous forests there! And part of the route is more like Cape Town with its winter rainfall Mediterranean climate, but the top end nearer P.E. and Addo has a drier climate tending towards summer rainfall. The best time to visit the Garden Route, South Africa My in-laws live in Sedgefield (just between Wilderness and Knysna) so we’ve now tried out a holiday on the Garden Route in every month of the year. Check out our favourite places to stay , and use our accommodation search tool to find YOUR ideal spot. September to April would be our recommendation from a weather point of view. The winter months from May to August are cooler and wetter. Bear in mind when planning that December is South African school holidays, so it’s really hard to get a booking anywhere without planning well in advance. Graph - Temperatures by month
