Fish Hoek, one of the least picturesque of Cape Town beaches?
I think it's because the backdrop to Fish Hoek beach is flat and when you've got used to the dramatic mountains hemming in Llandudno, or Clifton, it can be a bit of a let-down... ... just a long sweep of silvery sand, turquoise shallows filled with rolling waves and the odd catamaran or kayak on the gently heaving horizon. On second thoughts, I'm just a bit spoilt! Take a look and judge for yourself...
Not too shabby, is it?!

Why is Fish Hoek so loved by families?
There's plenty of parking, really close. So no problem schlepping Junior along with the cool box, beach umbrella, kite and, and, and...A playground full of options if the sand and sea disappoint.Warm ocean!
This is a completely unpretentious beach. It's home to the local Yacht Club as well as a base for some local fisherman who still use rowing boats to 'trek' for yellowtail, so it's full of interest beyond the obvious attractions of sun and sand. During the December holidays it's packed with visitors and there's always plenty of activity organised for the children by local volunteers.
What do we love about it? icecream on tap - what a bonus!it's a gently-sloping beach so you can bob like a cork over the swellsone-and-a-half kilometres of sand to stretch your legs along
