Glad to be of service!
by: Alison

That apartment was my first choice for you but I was in two minds because of the lack of BBQ space!

It's a real budget saver, isn't it?

I wish I could persuade more people that staying far away from the Waterfront and Camps Bay is the way to really enjoy Cape Town. |sigh|

Great choice, Peter :-)

Simonstown apartment deal too good to pass up!
by: Anonymous

Thanks for all this it has been great!

We are taking your advice and looking to stay in Simon's Town and use it as a base to do some day trips and hang out at the beach. The deal for Seaforth Beach Apartment was so good we have decided to go with this!

The price, being so close to the beach and what looks like a good restaurant sold it to us in the end. In our 2nd week staying with relatives and at Warmbaths/Sun City will mean we will have a lot of time to relax and have braais.

I'm sure I will be in touch again shortly once we have looked in to your suggestions for the day trips.

How about Simonstown?
by: Alison

I have found 4 possible self-catering options within your budget range. All are an easy walk to the beach and pretty safe for a toddler. All would be fine for a braai at night, too, except one which is a stone's throw from a reasonably-priced restaurant.

They are...

Plumbago Villa
Seagetaway
Deja View
Seaforth Beach Apartment

As to what to do for the 5 days, my advice is don't pack too much in. Don't plan to tour all day, Junior will not cope and you will get frazzled.

Definitely visit the penguins and spend time on the beaches around Simonstown. You should even see some whales there.

Also visit the Scratch Patch, a fabulous gemstone 'cave' which you will all enjoy.

The aquarium will be good, and do a 30 minute boat ride around the V & A Harbour.

Table Mountain is good too.

When you head out to the Winelands it will be worth visiting Cheetah Outreach at the Spier wine estate, going strawberry picking at Mooiberge and/or a carriage ride at Blaauwklippen.

A drive down to Cape Point would be good, and there is an ostrich farm near the entrance to the Nature reserve which can be good for the kids.

That should take up the 5 days I reckon!

Beach proximity for 5 days
by: Peter

We were just finalising our flights.

I have answered your questions below.

We really appreciate any help you can give us. We are excited about the trip but a little apprehensive how our two year old will find the long trip and finding somewhere safe for us to stay with him!

WE ARRIVE ON MONDAY 24TH NOV AND THEN FLY TO JO'BURG FIRST THING ON SAT 29TH

SWIMMING POOL IS NOT A PRIORITY. DEFINITELY NEAR A BEACH.

WE DON'T REALLY WANT TO BE NEAR THE CENTRE AT ALL WE WOULD BE PREFER TO BE AT THE BEACH. OUR THOUGHTS ARE THAT WE WOULD PROBABLY ONLY GO AND VISIT THE WATERFRONT AND AQUARIUM AND TABLE MOUNTAIN AND THE OTHER DAYS VISIT BEACHES OR DRIVE UP THE COAST AND MAYBE TO THE WINELANDS?

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO IN CT FOR FIVE DAYS WITH A TODDLER WILL BE GREATLY RECEIVED.

WOULD CONSIDER B & B OR SELF CATERING. WITH THE LITTLE ONE WE WILL PROBABLY BE BACK IN THE ACCOMADATION ALL EVENING SO ANY KIND OF PLACE WHERE WE CAN RELAX AND WATCH A DVD AND COOK A MEAL/BRAI IN THE EVENING WOULD BE GREAT.

Just a few questions to help get the best answers...
by: Alison

How long will you be here?

Do you want your accommodation to have a swimming pool, or is beach proximity enough?

How important is it to you to be near the Cape Town CBD?

Do you want to self cater, or would your rather have a B & B arrangement?
