Family of 3 with 11 month old baby

My name is Aravinda and I am based in Mumbai, India.

Our family of three (myself, my husband and our eleven month old baby) are planning to visit Cape Town in Nov, 2008.

I know that we are spoilt for choice in terms of accomodation. However, the price range of beach facing hotels is still quite high for us.

We thought of renting those apartments and villas but my husband is dead against it saying that it is not safe.

So, can you please advise us on this pretext. Would you consider them safer or would you recommend us to stay in a hotel?
