B&B accommodation in Sea Point, Cape Town
by: Anonymous

Hi Alison...thanks for your valuable info again.

I have sent enquiries earlier to Camps Bay Village for accommodation. However, I didn't get any reply from them.

We have finally agreed upon Villa Martini in Sea Point as a good choice and have made a reservation also.

Can't wait to visit the one of the most beautiful cities in the world!

regards
Aravinda

Camps Bay is safe. So is Hout Bay
by: Alison

I see you have decided to look further afield than the Waterfront. Great!

You need not be overly concerned about safety in the two areas you mention. They are both upmarket suburbs and as safe as you can be.

Just stay aware of your surroundings, as you would in any city.

Walking at night with a baby, you may feel somewhat vulnerable, especially as you are in a strange place. But bear in mind that in Cape Town it is light until 8pm or later in summer. And you can always drive or take a cab.

Any of the specific places you mention will be fine from a safety point of view, I am sure. there's nothing in their location to suggest otherwise.

Are you still looking for a self catering option, or a bed and breakfast? I see the properties you have mentioned seem to be B & B/guesthouses.

A good, safe, reasonable self catering option in Camps Bay would be Camps Bay Village. It's managed by the same company as Waterfront Village, with a similar concierge set up.

I am sure you will find something you feel comfortable with soon.

All the best with the search.

Considering Camps Bay or Hout Bay
by: Aravinda

Thanks for your advice.

We were busy finalizing our accommodation and hence took some time to reply to your mail.

We have finally managed to freeze on two-three venues.

One is Twenty First on Seven guest house and Camps Bay Oasis in Camps Bay and the other one is Dune Lodge in Hout Bay.

We are more in favour of the Camps Bay accom as it is more upmarket.

Do you have any info on these guest houses. Are they safe?

Cape town Waterfront Hotel or apartment -- good question!
by: Alison

Hi Aravinda,

Your husband is wise to be concerned about security, but in this case I can put your fears to rest.

An apartment at the Waterfront is in an exclusively secured area with a security gate and very safe. There are lots there, here is an example of one with 2 bedrooms that might suit you.
V & A Waterfront Apartment

If you want to go one better you can get a apartment with a concierge service that can help you with you arrangements while you are in Cape Town. This is like the best of both worlds - not as expensive as a hotel but with a high level of service and security PLUS the freedom of your own apartment.

Obviously the second option costs more than just the secure apartment, but still cheaper than hotel rates and with peace of mind for you both.

A site visitor of mine used this last Christmas and was very content.

If your husband is determined upon a hotel you should consider Breakwater Lodge which is the most cost effective of the Waterfront Hotels. Ask for family accommodation not just a room.

Let me know what you decide!
