If you can *recommend* great Cape Town family accommodation... |
Find Family-Friendly Hotels in Cape Town
Protea Hotels offer great options for families, and this is my favourite of the Cape Town Protea Hotels .
It’s one of the few beach front hotels in Cape town, right on the sand.
It faces the sunset, looking across Table Bay at the mountain, and is out of the urban hullabaloo of the City Centre but still less than 15 minutes from the V & A Waterfront.
For five star family hotels, consider the Cape Grace (right in the Waterfront). It's a favourite with five star families and has a unique postion in the heart of the Waterfront.
It feels secluded, yet is 5 minutes walk from loads of amenities and attractions.
Another option would be
the Radisson
(love it, love it – that would be MY first choice with the kids - wide terrace looking out across Table Bay, the yacht marina right next door and the long breakwater to walk on.
Their fish braai on-demand is legendary, as is their buffet style restaurant (but woe betide you if you dine a la carte - service is ALWAYS slow!)
For a more country feel, Steenberg in Tokai has a really rural feeling to it.
It is on a wine estate and set on a golf course, so between vineyards and fairways there is plenty of fresh air and space!
Continuing in the leafy and spacious theme Greenways is a lot closer to the city, but has more of a country house and less of a hotel feeling about it.
It is in Kenilworth, close to Kirstenbosch gardens and is set in big grounds under huge old trees.
Stay in a child-friendly Cape Town Guest House
We opt for a guest house when we want a little pampering. They’re more indulgent than a B & B but still a lot less pricey than hotels. Here are my top picks...
This Hout Bay guest house has an incredible position high on the mountain.
They welcome family parties.
Hout Bay has its own beach and lots of charm and is a 15-20 minute drive from Camps Bay.
Family Self Catering Accommodation Cape Town
This category offers a staggering amount of choice. You really need to decide on your budget and area quickly, otherwise you will go cross eyed staring and comparing on your computer monitor!
This is our most common vacation accommodation choice around SA and here's the first option in central Cape town which deserves your attention - read my on-the-spot review of Phil and Liz's place...
Rent a Cape Town Villa – great choice particularly for multi-generation family accommodation!
Most of the best Cape town villas are clustered along the Atlantic Seaboard, though you’ll find villa-style accommodation elsewhere, too.
(Find villas by filtering using ‘self catering’ and ‘upper’ as options on the left hand side)
Wine estate farm accommodation
The Cape Winelands is worth more than a day trip. If you can fit it into your itinerary, plan to overnight on one of the farms and really take the time to enjoy your tranquil surroundings.
This is my favourite family spot en route from Stellenbosch to Franschhoek.
It is a family accommodation self catering cottage that sleeps up to 6 people, tucked away up a valley behind the vines. It's close to a number of great country kitchen restaurants, and a short drive from Stellenbosch.
For a little more luxury and great family accommodation suites, this country house near Stellenbosch is on my wish list for a day in the future.
There is a wellness centre on the property, so you can indulge in a little pampering in between excursions.
