This set of beaches is so beautiful and with our long Cape summer evenings it’s just a perfect spot to chill out and enjoy the transition from bustling day to tranquil evening. Over the Christmas and New Year holiday period Clifton Beach is manic and parking space becomes problematic. So, come December it’s sundowner time for us locals -- if you only arrive at 5pm, parking is way less of a problem! Just to whet your appetite, here’s a photo essay of our most recent Clifton beach sundowner evening...
The daytime visitors are packing up – don’t they realise the best is yet to come?! Aha! – I see that the usual suspects are beginning to assemble! A couple of yachts are lapping in the gentle swells. If you fancy a sunset cruise to Clifton with the odd glass of bubbly laid on, this could be you one day!
On this particular evening it’s full moon, so we are treated to moonrise over the shoulder of Lion’s Head while we chat, sip and snack the evening away.
By the way, the authorities are clamping down and enforcing the ‘no drinking in public places’ law, so don’t be tempted to haul out alcohol on the beach. The officials are not always very polite when asking you to put it away and an unpleasant incident could leave a bad taste in your mouth!
Shadows grow longer and a couple of tranquil hours later (children all the while playing blissfully in the sand or jumping off the enormous boulders) we look up to see this ...
... awesome isn’t it?
Whew! Awesome squared...
Finally it’s time to go – “bye-bye yachts” - they are also leaving and we wend our way home in the deepening gloom of dusk.
If you fancy ‘moon-uppers’ instead of sundowners, head for beaches that face east such as St James or Fishhoek. Watching the moon rising over the Hottentots Holland is also a spectacular sight – one of our friends swears by it! What about the Polar Bear Club at Clifton Beach Cape Town?! < < Home from Clifton Beach Cape Town
