Why pay more than you have to? With increased competition, a discount airfare to Cape Town is no longer pie-in-the-sky. First things first -- do you need a domestic flight or international one?
Domestic Flights For domestic flights you're in luck. It's a matter of three little words - kulula, 1time and mango. These three beauties are our local low-cost airlines. Boy have they taken some of the financial pain out of air travel in South Africa! All three companies use direct web booking and e-ticketing. They are strictly no-frills - pay for your drinks and snacks on board or bring your own! I rate kulula most highly. Their prices are good and I enjoy their irreverent branding! 1time has a loyal following and does a good job - but I've found a greater selection of flights when shopping on kulula. mango is South African Airways' response to the low-cost competition. Worth considering, for completeness' sake. I suggest you compare them all to be sure of the best price. International Flights International flights are just a little trickier. You may feel you want to visit your local travel agent and pick their brains a little. Or do what I do - scour the Net and come up with a "gut feel" of what a good deal is so that you recognise it when you see it! There is a great tool that allows you to search and compare loads of airlines and flights at once. You can find it at www.kayak.com. Do your legwork well in advance. The 'last-minute discount travel' industry does not really exist on South African routes. Don't leave clinching your airline ticket to Cape Town to chance!
