Cape Town Winelands Maps
The Winelands near Cape Town offer infinite possibilities.
We find they're near enough for us to enjoy regular Sunday drives (distance from Cape Town to Winelands: between 40 and 50km to either Paarl or Stellenbosch, 60-odd km to Franschhoek) but if you want to base yourself there you'll find there are plenty of places to stay.
In the
Winelands
the seasons are paramount and you'll notice a distinctly different atmosphere to every season.
Winter is a tranquil dormant time, the vines bare and dreaming, the log fires lit and the rich red wines coming into their own.
Spring is the time of cool, fresh, misty-green growth, with buds unveiling and an underlying sense of fresh vigour and change. The strawberry fields are full of fruit and the scarecrows have their hands full fending off the birds!
Then there's summer with its searing heat interspersed with cloudy days that offer some respite. The cellars and tasting rooms are cool, dim havens from the sun's glare and the green lawns and shady oaks beckon.
Autumn is full of drama with the vine leaves changing colour to blanket the slopes in startling crimson, orange and yellow hues.
October and May are my favourite times in the Cape Town Winelands -- the brand-new of spring and the about-to-be-over of autumn. But no matter what season you visit in you can be sure the Winelands will enfold you in their charm.
