Cape Town Tours...
How To Find What You Are Looking For

There is a bewildering array of companies offering Cape Town tours.

Cape Town Tours

Many have quite similar offerings and making a choice can be tricky.

It can feel even more like a mine field when you’re sitting a long way away and wanting to sure of a hassle-free tour experience.

Here’s the first obstacle to negotiate
If you’re searching on the internet, you may not find some of the gems, because they are not that Web-savvy yet (after all, Cape Town is still Africa!)

And here’s the second obstacle
How do you know the tour operator you’ve found is legitimate and committed to giving you the experience you’re expecting?

In case you were wondering, you won’t find a huge corporate tour operator through this site. I prefer to work with smaller businesses to get more personal, passionate service. I hope you do, too.

But you can still slot conveniently into a scheduled tour if that is what best suits your budget and preference.

I can recommend a company that offers good, relatively small (up to 10 people) group tours on a daily basis. Their prices are reasonable and they can collect you from your accommodation.

Alternatively, you can arrange a private tour which can also be a good option, depending on your schedule and budget.

Let’s take a look at the pro’s and con’s of the two options, and then all importantly, compare the costs.

Joining a Scheduled Cape Town Tour

Advantages

  • it’s really convenient – you slot into their schedule on the day that suits you and off you go
  • it’s a budget-friendly option for groups of less than 3
  • there are no mind-numbing decisions to be made about preferences, you choose your tour for the day and go with your guide!

Disadvantages

  • definitely less flexible – you have to fit in with the company schedule
  • you go touring with strangers
  • it may involve waiting at places while other group members visit optional ‘extras’ that do not interest you

Arranging a Private Cape Town Tour

Advantages

  • it’s completely flexible, you start and end when it suits you
  • your guide is 100% at YOUR service so random stops are possible
  • no ice-breaking required as you know everyone in your vehicle!

Disadvantages

  • more costly for groups of less than 3 people

Basic Cost Comparison

(Tour operators in Cape Town work on a 1 October to 30 September price cycle. As a result all these prices will be adjusted with effect from 1 October to take account of escalating costs... aargh!)

A private full day tour will cost you (in total) R2,115 for up to 3 people and R2,875 for 4 - 7 people. So ranging from R705 down to R410 per person, depending on how many people you have in your party.

In contrast, a scheduled full day tour will cost you R480-R630 per person.

Safari tours have completely different pricing and will cost around R1,595 per person for a day tour.
