Cape Town Southern Suburbs Maps
Cape Town Southern Suburbs maps I've lived in the Southern Suburbs ever since I came to Cape Town as a student. They are cooler and damper than other parts of Cape Town because of the mountains close by, but rich in character because of all the history.
When the original Cape settlers began to migrate out of the City Bowl, they headed south around Devil's Peak.
The first farms outside the City Bowl were established here and you might say that Lady Anne Barnard continued the trend with her cottage "Paradise" in Newlands!
As a result you'll find (among other things!) some superb examples of Cape Dutch, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco architecture.
Other claims to fame include being home to
Kirstenbosch Gardens
, Groote Schuur Hospital and estate, the University of Cape Town and the Newlands Cricket and Rugby grounds.
And of course that's just the tip of the iceberg!
If you choose to stay in this area you'll find fine restaurants, excellent shopping, gracious vineyards and historic landmarks all within easy reach.
