I'm always being asked "What are your best Cape Town restaurants?" Finally I'm throwing caution to the winds and sharing what I think of as the pick of the bunch.

Our South African Cape is a foodie destination for sure. But we are not food snobs at Cape Town Family Holiday Magic! There are many reasons why a restaurant makes it onto our 'best' list. Take a look at how we decide what to include in our restaurant guide...

If you’re something of a ‘foodie’ you may want an official critics list (just 3 choices!) of the deluxe top restaurants in Cape Town.

And for the dedicated gourmet wanting to venture farther afield, here's a more exhaustive critics' list for top restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands for 2010!

Ours is the 'every person' guide to Cape Town restaurants!

Every place on this list has a great memory attached, offers a unique Cape Town experience, and of course great food :o)

Cape to Cuba, Kalk Bay
fascinating and unique - great for romance. It's sooo Cuban! (Alas no under 12's please)
Main Road, Kalk Bay, Cape Town. Tel: 27 21 788 1566

Harbour House Restaurant, Kalk Bay
Right in the fishing harbour, on the rocks the vista is literally gulls' eye view. Make sure you get there before the sun sets, to enjoy watching the gulls hovering outside the window as they fish. Wonderful seafood (pricey but delicious)
You MUST book ahead.
Kalk Bay Harbour, Cape Town. Tel: 27 21 788-4133

Blues Cape Town
Camps Bay contemporary, flapping-fresh seafood. We had dinner here the night we got engaged... need I say more?
The Promenade, Victoria Road, Camps Bay, Cape Town. Tel: 27 21 438 2040

Feedback from recent diners there indicates that Blues' standards may have slipped. So I'm not recommending them till I've had the chance to check that for myself... Sorry!

Wild Fig Restaurant, Observatory
close to home for us, this Olde Cape style spot (clay tiled floors and a wonderful courtyard under an enormous shady fig tree) serves crispy duck to die for.
Liesbeeck Avenue, Observatory, Cape Town. Tel: 27 21 448 0507

Moyo, Stellenbosch
a bit of North Africa and a bit of South. Moyo qualifies for our list beacuse it has a unique and special ambience.
R310 Lynedoch Road, Stellenbosch. Tel +27 21 809 1133

Madame Zingara's Theatre of Dreams
Gone for good - sniff :'(
Madame's became a casualty of the 2008/9 economic bust. Having just expanded to tour to London, our very own Cirque de Soleil equivalent went BANG! We miss her.
