First prize in our
"Unique Cape Town Restaurants"
category

When it comes to Cape Town restaurants, we've eaten in plenty over the years.

Some are commonplace. Others are wickedly expensive. Many have fantastic settings and incredible menus. This one - Cape To Cuba - hits a sweet spot for us.

Tacked onto the shoreline of Kalk Bay, it looks a slightly ramshackle affair and for months we toyed with the idea of trying it (against our better judgement!)

Would you eat here if you thought you had a choice?!

cape to cuba cape town restaurant Of course if we had asked around, our friends would have put us right - just as I'm doing for you!

Finally we plucked up our courage...

We were gob-smacked! The décor is amazing and (apparently) totally authentic - we've only visited Cuba in the movies :-)

In the course of many a Cuban sojourn, the owners amassed a wealth of Cuban recipes and a passion for Havana Via and so was born this most eclectic of Cape Town restaurants.

If any of the furnishings take your fancy, pull out your wallet and ship them home with you - every item in the place is for sale! And if you have a taste for a cocktail or Cuban cigar, you're in the right place.

If you eat at Cape to Cuba during the day, ask for a seat by the window so that you can peep through the dense foliage at the fishing boats in Kalk Bay harbour. If you’re there at night you’ll be too absorbed by the jewel-like interior to worry about the outdoors!

Cape to Cuba is a totally unique Cape Town experience -- although we hear there are plans a-foot to franchise it :-(

This Cape Town restaurant charms on all fronts - its waves'-edge location, fantastic ambience and colourful character. (a friend even has her eye on it for her Cape Town wedding)

And the bill won't send you reeling in horror even if you have overindulged yourself somewhat.

There's just one down side to it from our point of view -

Alas, due to all that fabulous-but-fragile-and-for-sale décor, this would be a nerve-wracking spot for owners of young and energetic kids! So to keep your stress levels down, the owners advise that only older families need visit.

Of course, there's nothing to stop you from having a romantic dinner for two if you have baby-sitting options - in fact I recommend you do, as soon as possible!
