Dog at Ease

Image #28 -- March 4, 2009

Dog at Ease, Oude Molen Farm, Pinelands, Cape Town

Cape Town is a city of contrasts, with little interesting 'life pockets' all jostling for attention. Near where I live there is a place called Oude Molen Farm which is just such a community.

It is a place that intrigues me and I have a feeling it is home to many fascinating lifestories, if I would but take the time to connect with people and ferret them out!

The scene you see above is so typical of it - ramshackle old buildings adopted for a different use and adapted with whimsical and bohemian flair by new inhabitants.

And the dog - King of All He Surveys - as he guards his doorway!

What else it at Oude Molen and how can you find it?

On a more practical note, Oude Molen is home to

  • the Millstone which is an excellent, rustic coffee shop as well as purveyor of organic bread (fresh baked daily), veg and preserves
  • Gaia Waldorf primary school
  • a run-down backpackers lodge
  • a laid-back riding school
  • an African drumming workshop and
  • a petting farm.

You can find it on Alexandra Rd, Pinelands. (Turn left at the Vincent Palotti Hospital robots, opposite the Pinelands railway station. If you get to Maitland you have gone too far!)
