September events - what's on in and around Cape Town in Spring? Of course the first day of Spring was wet and cool - typical of Capetown! But by mid-September it will be warm and sunny in greater and greater doses. Personally, I am already enjoying the earlier dawns and longer evenings... Drink Yourself Pink in Bot River - 3-5 September 2010Bot River is celebrating Rosé wines this weekend with its Spring into Pink festival! Entertainment varies from a polo match and fly fishing to pink paint ball games, with wine and olive oil tastings and blending, sumptuous meals, live music, pottery and art exhibitions. Guests are invited to carouse and cruise the night away on Saturday 4 September at a frothy pink party at the Bot River Hotel - tickets R80 :)

Cape Town Comedy Festival at the Baxter - 2-19 September 2010Home grown comedy talent - alas often not fit for tender young ears (why is stand up comedy so often centred around the crotch?) but maybe you need some comic relief as a parent?!

Plant fundis will have lovingly collected and labelled the displays and food and wine stalls plus a merry go round for the kids will complete the picture.

Cost: free Click here for accommodation in Hermanus. My Cape Town + Heritage Day - 24 September 2010Cape Town Tourism has made this September "MY Cape Town" month. They are encouraging Capetonians to get out and be tourists in their own city - just what we have been advocating since 2006! On Heritage day itself, there is all sorts going on around the Company's Gardens in town, and entrance to all Iziko Museums is free, so make the most of it! And don't forget that there are great specials on for the cable car and Robben Island - 2 kids go free with every paying adult. So take your own plus a couple of the neighbours' too! the same deal applies on the red Topless buses every public holiday and every weekend. Get out and enjoy the Mother City as if you had never seen it before!

This is a world-class air show with dynamic ground and flight demonstrations and fascinating static displays. Gates open from 6a.m. to allow the general public an early entry into the show - traffic backs up for miles around later, so aim to get here early. And if you can't get there early you can park at Ratanga Junction and take the FREE shuttle in for a more civilised arrival! The flying displays start at 07:30 until 17:00 (weather permitting). There is a full programme of fighter jets, aerobatic displays, massive transport planes, gleaming business jets, civil and military helicopters, vintage aircraft, as well as parachute jumps so don't miss out. There are also visiting naval ships open for visiting at the V & A Waterfront Make sure you have hats and loads of sunscreen as staring up into the sky is guaranteed to burn your faces! Greyton Childrens Festival - 23-26 September 2010Do you love the country life on weekends (or even on weekedays?) The Children's Festival in Greyton is all about celebrating what's best about life in this rural idyll! Just about an hour from Cape town, on one of those classic Overberg Roads to Nowhere, Greyton is a village with immense charm and character.

Outeniqua Country Hop Strawberry Festival 2010 - 25 and 26 SeptemberLoads of fun at Redberry Farm! There will be a wide variety of stallholders exhibiting good food, local wines and cheeses, fresh veggies, herbs and arts and crafts. Plenty of entertainment to keep both young and old busy from the beer tent with live music, to the exciting new miniature steam train, the "strawberry express" and 'bubble balls' on the dam. Dog agility displays, pony rides, strawberry picking, strawberry eating competitions, zorbing, paint ball target shooting, jumping castles, tractor rides and "Ronald Mcdonald" making a special appearance will add to 2 full days of family fun !

Hermanus Flower and Eco Fair - 30 September to 3 OctoberHermanus is really looking to steal the limelight at the end of the month! If you don't make it a double weekend away, you may have to choose between the Whale Festival and this green living and conservation event! All funds raised by the Fair will be used to maintain Fernkloof Nature Reserve and continue the local Eco-schools programme.
