Cape Town events so far for April 2010 show us all slowing down for autumn. I will continue to add new events as and when they come to my attention.

The secret season has arrived - warm windless days, cool evenings. Love it!

As always I focus on the family friendly options, those that make for a great time out for and with our children, no matter what their ages.


Cape Town Jazz Fest FREE Community Concert - Thursday 1 April, 2010

No, it's not an April Fool prank!
It's actually part of the build up to the main Jazz Festival on April 3rd and 4th, this is just a free concert for all to enjoy.

Cost: FREE
Time: 5pm
Place: Greenmarket Square, City Centre.

Two Oceans Fun Runs - Friday 2 April, 2010

The Fun Runs On Good Friday afternoon fun runners can choose from a variety of distances: 5km, 2.5km with the 300m Toddlers’ Trot and 56m Nappy Dash for younger kids. This is a wonderful opportunity for runners and their families to be part of the Two Oceans Festival of Running over the Easter weekend..

Cost: R20 per entry
Time: Friday afternoon from midday
Place: University of Cape Town fields

  • 12h00 - 56 m Nappy Dash - for kids younger than 3 years (must be able to walk).
  • 12h30 - 300 m Toddlers Trot - for kids between ages 4 to 6 years.
  • 13h00 - 2.5 km - for the young, the old and the not so fit.
  • 14h00 - 5 km - for the fitter and more adventurous runner/walker. This is also the perfect loosener for those running the half or the ultra.

Two Oceans Half and Ultra Marathons - Saturday 3 April, 2010

From 6.25am on Main Road Newlands, finishing at UCT. This is one of our best annual Cape Town events!

The world's most beautiful (ultra) marathon!


Hermanus Sea Rescue Music Festival - Saturday, 24 April 2010

Cost: Tickets are R120 for adults and R60 for children under 12.
Time: 10h00
Place:Hermanus New Harbour

Tickets are available from the NSRI stall at Market Square or on www.nrsi17.co.za


South African Cheese Festival - 24 - 27 April 2010

Cost: Tickets are R110 pp for Saturday and Sunday, R90 pp Monday and Tuesday. Kids 12 years and younger get free entrance.
Time: Saturday to Monday 10:00 to 18:00, Tuesday 10:00 to 17:00
Place:Bien Donne, on the R45 between Paarl and Franschhoek

Your ticket gains you entry, plus a shopping bag, festival programme, yummy tastings and inspirational demonstrations by some of South Africa’s top foodie peeps.

There will be plenty of kids' entertainment - high energy shenanigans for all ages, plus 'live' cartoon characters, a magician and balloon artists!

No ticket sales at the gate. Tickets are available from Computicket or on www.cheesefestival.co.za


Full Moon Picnic at Paarl Rock - Friday 30 April

Bring your own picnic basket or order one from R95.00 p.p. at Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel: 021 863 2800)

The monument will be open until 22:00.

Safe parking is available and access is controlled.

No dogs and fires are allowed at the picnics and visitors are reminded to bring warm clothes and a torch as all lights will be turned off.

Cost: R12 for adults, R5 for students and R2 for children.
Time: 5pm - 10pm (Moonrise is around 18:30 and sunset at 19:25)
Place:Taal Monument on Paarl Mountain

Riebeeck Valley Olive Festival - Friday April 30 to Sunday May 2, 2010

A worthwile weekend away, but close enough for a day trip.

Riebeeck Kasteel is a mighty picturesque little town, and along with its close neighbours has much to offer in the way of delicious olives, wines and other gustatory options.

Franschhoek Seafood Festival - Saturday May 1, 2010

Cost: R20 for adults, R10 for chidlren and U5's are free.
Time: 8am - 6pm
Place:Franschhoek

So close, how can you not go?!

This will be the first Seafood Festival to be held in Franschhoek. Seafood meals available and lots of stalls of all varieties.

Franschhoek really does festivals well, with great arrangements for family entertainment.
