Cape Town at Easter - mobility and wheelchair options?

by Nicky Broyd

Hi.... love your site.

My hope is to visit Cape Town at Easter (2 adults one 10 year old).

We want to see the penguins, go up Table Mountain, visit Robben Island, go on a Township Tour and I now realise from your site we could also fit in an overnight stay at a safari park which would be fabulous.

My question is about accessibility.
I have mobility problems and use a stick and sometimes a wheelchair. Mostly I get around fine but am pretty slow. I'm looking for accommodation (hotel or Guesthouse) which doesn't have too many steps and ideally has a separate shower (not one over the bath).

I would love sea views. After just a quick look at your site I am very taken with Sunset Beach Guest House, as I could easily get to the beach (it's no good for me when hotels say things like ' just a 5 minute walk' as for me it might just as well be a 5 mile hike!!).

Are there any other places you could suggest and do you think we'd be too far from everything we want to see at Sunset Beach?

Just as info for you, two of the tours I plan to take are with Epic Enabled. I don't know if you've heard of them but thought it might interest you.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Nicky,

Apologies for taking a while to get back to you, we have been in the Drakensberg over the festive season.

I called Sunset Beach Guest House as my memory was that all their rooms were upstairs. It turns out they do have one room downstairs, but it has only bath, no shower :(

It does not sound ideal at all, although the room does have large double doors out to the beach, and they could accommodate your 10 year old in the room with you...

There are only two other recommendations I can make - both hotels and unfortunately pricier than Sunset Beach. Literally on the sand, though...

One is Dolphin Beach and the other is Lagoon Beach

Both are on Table Bay, with awesome views of Table Mountain.

Of the two I prefer the feel of Dolphin Beach, as a gut feel -

And both are closer to the City Bowl for your touring and safari options. Only the penguins are further off.

Safari-wise, if you are planning for overnight go to Inverdoorn. Slightly further afield but definitely worth the little extra time.

Hope this helps. Let me know what you decide.
