Camps Bay

It's a lifestyle!
Camps Bay is far more than a magnificent sweep of sand backed by the Twelve Apostles mountains.
Alongside its closest Atlantic Seaboard neighbours at Clifton, this is a place to strut your stuff. A couple of years ago my cousins visited with their teen-aged sons. The boys voted with their feet day after day - Camps Bay was the place to babe watch! Locals and visitors alike love the lifestyle aspect of it - laid-back beaching within reach of world-class coffee, wine bars and cafes. And that's before we investigate any of the serious restaurant options! This is about THE most sought after spot for visitors, after the Waterfront.
Downsides (if any?) to the beach itself - it's on the Atlantic side so colder water
- parking can be a jostling affair in season
- it's busy - if you have kids you need to be on the look out for them
Obvious Upsides... - plenty of room to move
- lots of human action to watch
- great waves and a tidal pool at the southern end
- loads of bars and restaurants right nearby
- very vibey and trendy if that's your style/li>
In all honesty, I'm not a regular visitor here. I'm an African bush baby at heart and I prefer to keep away from the crowds. (Not that there's a shortage of wide-open space! The beach is superb and there's all that eating and drinking to be done!) Camps Bay does have a special place in my heart because we had dinner there the night we got engaged! It's close enough to the City Centre to be convenient yet has this beachfront vibe. And it's packed full of entertainment options within strolling distance. For serious clubbing, Long and Loop Streets (in the Cape Town CBD are unrivalled, but many people choose Camps Bay as a base.

If you'd like to be close to the City Bowl, but prefer a smaller, quieter spot check out
Glen Beach
- I think it's a beaut.
