Accommodation Cape Town -
where to stay and why

Accommodation Cape Town

Choosing wisely when you don't know a city well can be a minefield. It's just as well you have a personal Cape Town accommodation guide - me :o)

What do you consider when choosing where to stay in Cape Town?

There are 3 obvious things...

  • cost -- varies according to location. Consider what a location is worth to YOU
  • value for your money - 'cheap accommodation in Cape Town' is a relative term and if the type of accommodation turns out to be unsuitable you will probably check out early and ending up paying over the odds somewhere else
  • Cape Town activities -- position yourself near the things you want to do and you'll spend more time relaxing and less time driving.

Okay, let's talk about cost...

The usual 'laws' of the universe apply in Cape Town just as they do all over the planet!

Beachfront accommodation in Cape Town is for those prepared to pay a premium. (Atlantic coast accommodation is among the most upmarket accommodation in Cape Town and costs even more!)

Centrality and proximity to facilities (e.g. being on the door step of the V & A Waterfront!) will also command a premium.

What's the bottom line?

For accommodation close to the beach that doesn't cost the earth, consider the South Peninsula -- the False Bay coast as well as Scarborough, Kommetjie and Noordhoek -- or the West Coast - Milnerton and Bloubergstrand.

Accommodation Cape Town -- consider staying in more than one place...

...if you're going to be here long enough!

There are so many things to do in Cape Town and although it's a relatively small city, time in traffic is always wasted (just my humble opinion ;o))

Picture this as a possibility...

  • you'd like a week to relax on the beach (or the kids want to surf!) before tackling sight seeing in Cape Town, so you choose accommodation on or near the coast.
  • Once you are thoroughly chilled out, you move somewhere more central and 'do' some of the Cape Town attractions.
  • Finally you head out for a few nights in the Winelands to soak up the Olde Cape atmosphere.
