... and I think Squirrel and Vine will suit you down to the ground.

It fits all your criteria -
central but not on a main road
self catering
easy walking distance to restaurants and the historic Dorp St area
good value.

The only other option I can recommend is Bellabosch which also meets all your criteria but is slightly more costly.
