A couple of accommodation options...
by: Alison

I had a thought that justletting.co.za might not be a great help with a 1-month furnished let.

In Cape Town, furnished apartments to let (we call them 'flats' like the Brits) are not the norm, and a minimum lease period of 6 months is not uncommon.

So I went on a trawl to see if there was anything in the 'holiday let' zone in the areas I recommended, that might meet your criteria.

And I came up with these two as a starting point:

Dockside in De Waterkant

York in Green Point

And remember - all rates are always negotiable for longer periods.
ALWAYS!!

Ahh...Capetown to live for a month!

Alison:
Thank you so much for your quick and thoughtful response!!!! Your website is really fantastic!

Capetown sounds like the PERFECT place to spend a month! And of course, it helps there are a few other SBIers to help me out navigating a new place and all. That internet thing worries me a tad, but I'll figure it out.

I am keeping it high on the list and I really appreciate all your amazing information. Now, I just have to get myself past the $2000 flight and 20+ hrs of flying. If I can get over those humps, I?m in!

I will surely get back to you soon ? I just have to figure out how to make those things work for me. The cost of the flight and the apartment and car might put me past my budget for a month. I?m working on it, though!

Warmest Regards,
Melissa

I'm glad the information helped.

A few details about your flight - yes, flights from the US do take a while, it's definitely l o n g haul :) And obviously the more stops, the longer the travel time.

But that $2,000 price tag you mention seems excessive.

Will you be flying out of JFK? And what dates? I just tapped in JFK to CPT, dep 1 Nov, returning 1 Dec to get a ballpark figure and flights were prices from R9,083 (around $1,250)?

I got that using the SECOND search engine on my Capetown flights page. It does international flights, just as well as Kayak does ;), and actually pops the results up in a much more user-friendly format. And it has a handy '+-1 day' feature that can save you $ just by shuffling your flight dates by 24 hours :)

Another thing: I have just put together a planning guide (free download) for my visitors. Would you like to be the first guinea pig to use it? Live feedback from you would be SO valuable!

Here's the download link - I haven't put it anywhere on the site yet, am still getting things ready.
